Member Code of Conduct

SYDNEY SWANS MEMBER CODE OF CONDUCT

The Sydney Swans are committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for all members, supporters, patrons, officials, venue staff, club personnel and players attending Sydney Swans match days and events. We believe that all people that interact with the Club have the right to enjoy games and events in a safe, supportive, inclusive and respectful environment and to be treated fairly at all times. Accordingly, we require all people interacting with the Club to comply with this Code of Conduct.

All Members interacting with the Sydney Swans, including attending a Sydney Swans game, event or function or on social media must:

  1. Act as ambassadors for the Sydney Swans and the game of AFL and, as such, conduct themselves in a way that reflects the Club’s values and promotes the Club.
  2. Not engage in offensive, abusive or aggressive behaviour (including the use of crude or abusive language or gestures, insults, threats, intimidation, assault or provocation) when dealing with match officials, venue employees, security, players and Sydney Swans employees and officials.
  3. Not engage in or endorse any form of anti-social behaviour including vilification based on race, gender, religion, sexual preference, orientation or identity, ethnicity, personal circumstances, disability or age. The Club endorses the AFL’s strong stance on vilification and has zero-tolerance for members or supporters who abuse the opposition, opposition supporters, fellow members or fans, club personnel or umpires in any way deemed to be inappropriate.
  4. Not use or encourage the use of violence in any form, whether it is by spectators, team officials (including coaches) or players.
  5. Follow Sydney Swans dress codes, where appropriate and any dress codes in place at venues.
  6. Comply with any terms of entry of a venue, including bag inspections, prohibited and restricted items such as flares, missiles, dangerous articles and items that have the potential to cause injury or public nuisance.
  7. Not throw missiles, including on to the field of play or at other spectators, and must not enter the field of play or its surrounds without lawful authority.
  8. Uphold this Code of Conduct at all times and conduct themselves in a manner that does not damage (or have the potential to damage) the reputation of the Sydney Swans or otherwise bring the Sydney Swans, the AFL or the game generally into disrepute.

Any person who breaches this Code of Conduct or otherwise engages in conduct that damages or is likely to damage the reputation of the Sydney Swans or causes an unsafe environment may be evicted from the venue or event and may face penalties including suspension or cancellation of membership without refund and/or bans from attending future games or events. Breaches of this Code of Conduct may be reported to the AFL Integrity Unit for further investigation if required.

The Sydney Swans work closely with the AFL and its venues to identify and act upon anti-social behaviour in accordance with the AFL’s National Vilification and Discrimination Policy and Member Protection Policy.

The Sydney Swans appreciates your support of the Member Code of Conduct and encourages everyone to call out anti-social behaviour by reporting offences via the most appropriate channels.
